The two cats who inspired the Name and Logo pictured above
Lola’s Broom Stick and Candle became a reality for me on March 3, 2025. My Mother and I were tossing around names and ideas that would help with where I wanted to be and do in life. I am a huge animal lover. I have gone out of my way to rescue and save dozens of animals over the years, ranging from birds, to flying squirrels, to cats and dogs. The name Lola comes from a special cat that is my mom’s baby. She was a rescue. When we got her, she was not doing very well and took her to the vets a few times. I also stayed up countless nights giving her lots of TLC and wondering to myself “Is this kitten going to make it?” I was determined to give her a fighting chance no matter the cost because she reminded me of a Kitten that my S/O recused and we lost. Her name was Apollo, she was a fighter, did everything in her power to beat the odds. She had been found at about 6 weeks old in a shopping cart in the middle of July in Florida. Yes, the hottest part of the day no less. He Brought her home and placed her in my arms. We discovered she had been pretty badly injured. A leg was dislocated, breathing issues, and a few other things. Got her patched up. Like Lola I spent countless hours with her in bed with me and waking up every hour to be sure she was doing alright and didn’t need anything. She pulled through made a recovery that was impressive. Though sadly she passed away March 11, 2024. Took her in to get spayed and she didn’t make it out of the Anesthesia. It turned out this cat was more of a fighter than I knew. She was surviving without lung tissue. Which meant she was born without lungs or very small, underdeveloped lungs. The Vet said she should not have survived. So, this one tiny Tuxedo baby turned my world upside down, opened my eyes that even for the smallest chances life was worth fighting for. It helped me give Lola the fighting chance she deserved, in which case Lola pulled through and is being a spoiled princess today.
My logo is deeply personal. There's a tattoo on my arm inspired by all the cats who have touched my life, including Apollo, Ninja Kitty, and Morgan. They are reminders that the animals who come into our lives, even briefly, become part of our souls.
Nature has always spoken to me in quiet but profound ways. My love of animals led me to explore the spiritual side of nature, including animal spirits and totems. It turns out my lifelong totem is the cat. Graceful, mysterious, independent, and sometimes a little mischievous, cats embody a spirit I’ve always felt connected to. That is not to say they aren’t little evil spawns with murder mittens. Cause they can be quite bratty at times.
Lola’s Broom Stick and Candle was created from our story, that connection to animals, nature, and the quiet magic that surrounds us every day.
